Seattle’s narrow comfort band

It’s pretty funny. Seattleites have a very narrow band of comfort, temperature-wise. Looks like the range is about 65 to 72. Today hit about 75 in places, with complaints about the heat ensuing. 80 brings about fears of heat stroke, and 85 is the realm of demons.

For me, I’m delighting that I’m finally able to wear shorts and flip-flops. And, well, that my taekwondo school is air -conditioned. Yeah, I’m not immune to Seattle’s proclivities.

Yesterday we went to Everett’s Farmers Market. I’m quite fond of it, especially with the “new” location. It didn’t move far, if you don’t know where it moved to.

My first love is the Edmonds market. It’s great to have s Saturday and a Sunday choice, though.

This weekend had perfect market weather, though above the temperature band. I heard many complaints about the heat.

For though of us adapted to Western Washington, decent weather brings us outside. Even amidst our complaints and discomfort. Between the markets and getting my Fitbit steps in, I got my outside time in.

For that I’m grateful. And glad. I do adore this region.

Wacky weather and fitness

The notion of micro-climates solidly describes Seattle area weather. Marysville, today, had the occasional flurry of snow, several moments of rain dumping hard, intermixed with moments of sun. Just a few miles east was pretty heavy snow. Wacky….

Our crappy weather impacts my activity levels. Getting outside and the requisite motivation became depleted when buckets of ice water G pelting down. Bleh!

Funny to see cars heavily laden with fresh snow next to cars that are, at the worst, very damp. Travelling a few miles any direction will see fantastic variations. My 20 mile commute, especially in winter, can see a number of different systems. I’ve traveled through sun, snow, rain and freezing fog on a single commute.

Out unique geography helps craft convergence zones, which are the fundamental roots of our wacky weather patterns. We lack consistency throughout the region. It provides some charm to the area.

Rough weather heading our way tomorrow

Just saw this over at Cliff Mass’ site. Looks like, starting tomorrow, our weather is going to be rough. Dig out the rain gear Seattle peeps!

Warning: Major Storms Threaten the Pacific Northwest

Starting Thursday, we will enter a period of extraordinarily active weather with the potential for heavy rain, flooding, and a highly dangerous windstorm with the potential to be an historic event. The coastal waters and shoreline areas could well experience hurricane-force gusts, with a lesser but serious threat for strong winds over the interior.  Keep in mind that there is still uncertainty in the forecasts, more so for the wind than the rain.

My, it’s rather brisk today

After the past few days of 80 F + weather, this drop to the 60s is rather brisk. Dare I say “cold”?

However, it’s nice to not sweat so much. The drop is temperature is actually quite nice.  Just wishing I had a sweater right now. I guess I, like most Seattle-folk, aren’t happy  unless we’re complaining about the weather.

Anyway, how are you dealing with the change? Happy? Freezing? “Wait, the weather changed? I better get out from in front of my monitor…”
