Driving Past Naked People – An Update On A Weekend

My weekend was quite calm for a change. Spent a fair amount of time cleaning up the house and watching movies. Finally got to see Age of Ultron (on the Apple TV).

Sunday was the most eventful. Went to pick up one of my son’s friends, with the plan to then head to the Edmonds Car Show.  As he wasn’t feeling up to going out, and then starting to rain, my son and I opted to just drive home and chillax (as the kids say).  On our way home, I chose to drive through Woodway and, right about here,  there was a middle-aged fellow jogging down the street dressed with only a few leaves held carefully over his nether regions.

Such causes me to wonder about stories. How does someone end up in a state of undress, in public, running down the street in one of the most prestigious neighborhoods in the region? One does wonder. And what might the exchange have been when he got to chat with Edmond’s finest (two cars passed me heading in his direction).

Otherwise, a quiet and calm weekend in Edmonds by the Bay. Bummed I missed the Car Show, and could’ve passed on the “other” show, but it’s a great little town.

An #Edmonds Kind Of Fourth Of July Eve

Today we wandered a bit. Downtown Edmonds’ “Where’s Waldo” campaign is going strong. As we set out our chairs for the parade, I saw my old favorite gelato place, Canario. It’s now on the Fifth Avenue side of Old Milltown. I was worried they’d gone under, so was delighted to see the new space. That’s where we first found Waldo. Then the Edmonds Bookshop called too loudly to ignore. Oh, the power books have over my psyche! I’m looking forward to Oliver Sacks’ latest. And we found Waldo there as well. Found him in several other Edmonds shops, too. Bonus: talked with old friends, bought a few books and sundry things. A lovely day.

#Edmonds Arts Festival | Going On Right Now

I feel bad that, in the flurry of activity that sums up this weekend for me, the Edmonds Arts Festival slipped from my attention. This is one that I simply adore. The Frances Anderson Center is a great venue, and the organization pulls together an delightful show. Of course, knowing several of the talented kids who have work on display helps motivate me, too.

I was able to spend the late morning there today, and plan to head back this afternoon. It runs today until 6:00 pm.

Bike Exchange At Seaview Elementary June 6

Are your kids in need of a bigger bike? Need to get a  bike out of your garage? You may be able to find one at the GayLynne Ullerich Bicycle Extravaganza at Seaview Elementary on Saturday June 6th from 10:00 – 1:00PM. GayLynne was a friend who loved the outdoors, especially cycling. Besides teaching, she taught all kinds of classes at REI. This is a perfect way to honor her. So, bring in a ‘too small’ bike to exchange for a bigger bike, if available.  This fun event includes a bicycle rodeo, bike tune ups and helmets for sale.  Please see below

Congrats to the Lynnwood High Girls Basketball Team

Earlier this week, Lynnwood’s Mayor and City Council were able to give the most formal of congratulations to our local State Champs!  As a Meadowdale alum and long-time Lynnwood resident, just want to say how proud I am of our local kids doing great things.

It doesn’t seem that long ago that our local Pacific Little League boys were in the Little League World Series. This region has some good sports genes I guess.

New Edmonds Restaurants

According to this post (on My Edmonds News), we have a Spuds Fish & Chips AND a Top Pot Donuts coming to Salish Crossing (that’s what’s being built in the old (ancient?) Safeway building right next to the train station.

I can’t tell you how happy this makes me.

More about the Salish Crossing development and the official site’s site is here.

Zeeks Pizza Coming To Lynnwood

I passed this on my way to work this morning. This in front of the old Wong’s China Kitchen on 44th & 196th, a smidge east of Fred Meyer. .

I’ve long enjoyed Zeeks, so am quite delighted to see them coming into the neighborhood.

Yet, it is interesting how many of the more urban focused Seattle businesses are making their way into south Snohomish County. Such as Pagliacci, Ezells and PCC just to name a few. I feel this reflects the changing nature of the area; it’s growing urban feel. I, for one, am enjoying this change. But many are disquieted that this venerable suburb is changing quite dramatically. Such is life, I suppose.

Drone Footage of the Edmonds Ferry Dock

I stumbled upon this drone video of the Edmonds ferry and thought it monumentally cool. For what that’s worth. I’m sure this is probably some kind of federal crime, but that really doesn’t change how I feel.

This made me think it would be great to have an Edmonds playlist on YouTube. So, here you go.

Christmas In Edmonds

Edmonds Ferry

Our Christmas was blessedly calm. Slept in, opened presents, made some breakfast, played with the new gear, then went down to one of our favorite spots: the Edmonds waterfront. A low-key day, which is particularly nice right now, providing a nice counter-balance to our lives. It’s been rather zany this December.

It was fun running into Thayer of Just Frogs (and Toads Too), and helping her decorate the Olympic Sculptures.

After these chaps were decorated, we had many folks stop by to be photographed with them. I delight in chatting with the wide variety of folks walking the boardwalk.

This slideshow features the highlights of our day.

Sunsets along the Sound are always lovely. Always a wonderful way to spend the evening. Though it was time for hot-cocoa afterwards.

I hope your holiday was just as lovely.

Random Christmas thought

Christmas may be for children, but Christmas shopping is for the nearly insane. Well, people were well behaved. Except for the guy who honked at me because I was unwilling to pull in front of moving traffic. Meh, Merry Christmas to you, too, cranky pants.
