A day in Edmonds

I love the tranquil feeling of walking along the Edmonds shoreline. One of my favorite places on earth. Memories; of my my grandparents, my mom, my wife and now watching my son grow up. All these upon the sandy shores near the ferry. Part of what makes the place home.

Updated the Vlog

It’s been a bit, and I did commit to updating regularly. This one’s a photo montage of my recent wanderings around Edmonds and Lynnwood.

Reflecting On Edmonds

It’s been a lovely weekend here in South Snohomish county. Yesterday I made my way down to the Edmonds Barbershop. For me, that’s John’s barbershop. When I lived down there, I’d walk there once a month or so. He always did a fantastic job. Then we moved to north Lynnwood, nearly Mukilteo. Slowly, the drive started to become too much, too convoluted. And for the sake of time, I’d end up at the discount hair place with the shortest line. After moving a few years ago, it finally sank in that I can make the journey now without too much trouble. So, even with my maniacal calendar, I was  able to carve out the time. It was great to catch up. He knows so very much about the details of Edmonds life.

It’s amazing to reflect on all the changes I’ve seen the city come through. My grandparents lived there for decades. My grandfather died in this town. He’d hardly recognize it. I can’t imagine him trying a pain au’chocolat (he’d definitely try a crescent roll with chocolate bits, though). There are elements of that old Edmonds left. The first things that comes to mind is the Edmonds Bakery and the venerable Pankcake Haus. But we have many lovely but fru-fru restaurants now; ones that I love but he’d scratch his head over. These changes excite, but I feel a tinge of nostalgia. Me, though, I focus on the positive and let the negative drift away. Especially as I have little control over either.

With that, it’s time for me to step outside and enjoy this lovely breezy spring-esque day. May you  day be filled with delight and fun, rejuvenating you for the week to come.

A Walkabout in Edmonds

This past Saturday, while the rest of my family was at a choir festival, I wandered around one of my favorite locales: the Edmonds Waterfront. As a boy, my grandparents lived down here. As an adult, I lived here shortly after I got married and this was where we lived when my son was born. Many fond memories of the area, the parks, the restaurants, the people. I love making my way back, though my life is centered just a few miles north in Lynnwood.

I was struck by the amount construction near the water. Predominantly remodeling, but also some new construction. And, right next to the post office, there’s a condo going up. Which brings to mind a key thing about this area: multi-family homes. Though there still are more single family residences being sold in Edmonds writ-large, when you refine things down to what I’ll call the bowl, you find the stats switching. In the past 6 months, 53 condos were sold vs 30 SFRs. And watching the construction going on in the area, including Lynnwood, we’re going to see more condos built. This higher density model will impact life, but I don’t expect a gross degradation in lifestyle.  If anything, with a growth in transit options, this might make for a bright future in south Snohomish county.

So, below is a slide-show of my wanderings. Enjoy!

Edmonds “I Love Dicks” Video

This was shot and posted just about a year ago. Sadly, I completely missed this car show. It’s mindblowing to see the parking lot this full, especially since Winco hadn’t opened yet. Check out the number of cars backed up onto 99 waiting to just pull into the lot. This is a bit long at >10 minutes, but it’s pretty nice.

Tonight! Henna & Reflexology in Edmonds’ FABRIC OF LIFE

I subscribed to Fabric of Live’s email list many moons ago. Back, baaaack when they were in their first store location. I love the work they do, and the service they provide to the greater world. Great folks with a great mission. A big plus: the ambiance of the store is deeply tranquil. I guess that goes with their service ethos.

So, if you love henna, reflexology and just hanging out with people doing great things, here’s a great time to be had.

Some great photos of Edmonds

I just discovered  the Pacific Northwest Photography Forum today. It’s kinda funny, as the design suggests it’s been around a while.

Bill Anderson is an Edmonds resident and I’ve seen his photos online often. Lovely stuff! Anyway, he posted some great shots here a few days ago.  Below are a few of my favorites:
