The Evolution of a Lynnwood Construction Project

Evergreen Estates Sign - Lynnwood

If you travel around the intersection of 188th and Highway 99 in Lynnwood, you’ve probably noticed the land that’s been sitting vacant for years has been cleared. It’s been quite the journey for this site over the past few years.

Evergreen Estates Construction
Evergreen Estates – Lynnwood

It has evolved a fair amount since it was the Evergreen Estates mobile home park. Back in 2017, it was slated to become the Evergreen Village apartments, a 231 unit 6-story multi-family project. There were low-income units planned, which would be valuable in this region, especially with housing prices rising rapidly. Though it would’ve solidly impacted traffic in my neighborhood, I was good with something going in. That project fell apart, however, I don’t have visibility to the specifics. It did go through much of the more involved parts of the permitting process. I did notice that the property went up for sale after languishing for a few years. In 2020, it was bought by Holman Lynnwood RED LLC, an affiliate of Holman Auto of New Jersey. And now the land has been cleared and the project seems to be moving forward.

Many of us are going “great, just what we need…ANOTHER car lot on Highway 99!” I’m glad that the property will be developed and become less of a trash and graffiti magnet.

Congrats to Lynnwood’s Zuri’s Donutz Featured On KING 5’s Evening Magazine

Zuri's Donutz

We’ve been fans of Zuri’s for months, and head over at least once every weekend. I highly recommend them.

You can watch the video below, or you can head over to the Evening Magazine article here.

Zuri’s has had other media coverage. Check out:

Clearly, Zuri’s is a great part of our community. Though I don’t really relish longer lines, I think everyone should swing by and give them your support (directions at this link).

Help Get This Sculpture Back Home

Stolen Mushroom In Lynnwood
Stolen Mushroom In Lynnwood
The owners of this stolen mushroom sculpture In Lynnwood would like it back

Copying and pasting from this post on Nextdoor:

“So some time this weekend some one decided to take my yard mushroom…😭😢 I just want it back. It was a memorial to my brother who I lost in 2019. If you have any info that would be great. It is pretty big at leat 3feet around and tall……… pretty noticeable thank you for any information. We live in Lynnwood wa right behind meadowdale high.”

I walk by this house almost daily and found this delightful. Knowing it’s a memorial makes it more awesome, and it’s theft more painful.

If you know anything, reach out and let someone know. We need to get this thing back to its rightful owners.

Dear friends, some beverages pair well…and some…well…

While on my way back from Mountlake Terrace’s Double D Meats, I really wanted some coffee…and a pumpkin scone (I love them so). For the coffee part, I opted for a good ol’ pumpkin spice latte. They goofed on a prior order and offered me a free iced white chocolate mocha. So I think “absolutely”! On the drive home, I sipped my PSL merrily. Once I got home, though, I thought I’d take a sip of the mocha. Um…poor choice. The mocha paired, well, horribly with the PSL. I needed to give my mouth a good rinsing.

So, dear friends, when offered a free beverage, take a moment and think about how it will blend in with the rest of your meal.

Some Land Changes In Lynnwood Along Highway 99

I have news alerts for Lynnwood set up via Google. Today one came through that didn’t seem too significant at first glance “Lynnwood auto site sells for $13 Million.” But a quick glance made me see that there was something a bit deeper, more important…well, at least for me. The address looked very familiar: 18624 Highway 99, Lynnwood. It’s really close to my house and I just knew I’d see that address before. Well, a few years ago, it was a proposed site for low-income apartments: The Evergreen Village. This was a 231 unit complex expected to start construction in 2016. That never happened. Seeing the sale, though, made me take a deeper dive.

I’m not sure what stalled the project, but I see that that TCG Investments, the owners of the property who had proposed the development, sold to a company called Swickard Real Estate Investments back at the end of 2018. Then they sold to another company, Holman Lynnwood RED, LLC. This group looks to be part of the Holman Automotive Group located out of New Jersey.

I would expect, then, that they are planning on developing the site for another auto sales lot. Not at all a unique business in Lynnwood along Highway 99. Backing up against the old Cycle Barn site, where it looks like Sandberg Volvo is parking cars makes me wonder if Sandberg will be expanding into that space. Certain logic there, no? I guess we won’t know until someone finally submits permits on the site (I did check the City of Lynnwood’s permit site today and don’t see anything yet).

Getting Takeout: helping our beloved local restaurants stay afloat

Today we went and got take-out from one of our favorite local places: Mel and Mia’s (they’re offering takeout and curbside pickup). In the madness of these times, it’s critical to support our local businesses. Especially those that you adore.

Check out the macaroon Rebecca crafted! Isn’t it stunning? One of many reasons why I love these folks.

Near My House: A Cyclist Hit By Van

Deeply alarming news for me:

From the Everett Herald: “Cyclist hospitalized after van driver hits her in Lynnwood

So, though glad no “serious” injuries occurred, I feel a bit dis-ease. This happened a very short drive, and rather short walk from my house. With that, I pass by this exact spot several times a week as part of my regular walking/exercise regimen. As an avid cyclist (though a rather fair-weathered one right now) I ride past here quite often, too. From middle-school through high-school, I walked and rode past this intersection at least twice a day. Thus, my connection to this stretch of asphalt runs deep.

For me to see something as senseless as DUI/injury accident this deep into my personal geography unsettles. Reminds me of the tenuous nature of life, the randomness that permeates all our days. The great line “there but for the grace of God go I” captures my current feeling.
