Let’s Talk Burgers, Shall We?

Over on Instagram one of my chums, Eat Stay Love posted the photo below:

 

Their post led to a discussion about great burger places in the region. Funny, but I realize I’ve experienced many and have my “definitive” list of favorites, which stretch from Seattle north to Bellingham.

This my reflexive list. What’s missing? What are your favorites? I’d really love to hear them.

Several years ago, I considered doing a road trip focused on the best burger places. Might be time to consider that one again. What do you think?

Quite the day, weather-wise here in Edmonds & Lynnwood

Quite a combination of weather today near the Salish Sea.

I woke to a lovely morning snowfall.

By the time we needed to head to church, the snow was mostly gone. We had a few flurries through the late morning and afternoon, with nothing sticking.

My son’s youth group went to an Everett Silvertips game in the late afternoon. The sun was shining brightly, though quite cold. Oh, and a brisk, strong wind. So we went and walked along the Edmonds Waterfront; one of our favorite things. According to the weather station at the marina, it was 34 degrees with windchill dragging things down to 27. Brrrr!

Looking north from Brackett’s Landing, Mount Baker was glorious. I didn’t bring a decent camera with me, so you get these taken with my phone. Not too bad, but nowhere near capturing it’s awesomeness.

The wind was pretty relentless. Sea water spraying and wind howling through the boats’ rigging in the marina.

A very lovely afternoon along Puget Sound. Lovely….and cold. But we weren’t alone. Many good folks dared the frigidity to enjoy the sun. Even some windsurfers with their gear on the beach. Pretty sure hoping for a break in the strong winds (there was a small craft advisory for the Sound).

The Holidays Approacheth

I find it sobering to realize one week from today is Thanksgiving. Which, for me, is when the “Holiday Season” begins.

I don’t opt to participate in Black Friday madness. I love REI’s Opt Outside campaign. Definitely the preferable choice. Either that, or, if the weather outside is frightful, then I’ll enjoy a book, movie, or a cafe.

For my family, the Tree Lighting in Edmonds kicks off the holiday season. Always the Saturday after Thanksgiving, it’s simply a charming, local family fun event. We’ve been going since my son was an infant. Santa arrives on a vintage fire-truck and lights the Christmas Tree in the middle of Centennial Plaza. Starting at 3:30 pm, hot cocoa will be served. The real fun starts at 4:00.

 

Santa will be available for photos at the tree lighting. And, around here, another standard “thing to do” is Santa photos at Alderwood Mall. It looks like they’ve already started. But, starting next week, expect lines. The closer to Christmas, the longer the line.

Bothell has a fun “Santa’s Workshop” at Country Village.

Santa and his fire truck will make their way to Mountlake Terrace on Friday, December 1st.

I’ve been focusing on getting more exercise lately. Once my focused attracting beautiful women. Now, as I’m in my 50s, I’m more focused on preventing diabetes, and other ailments. Diabetes, in particular, scares me. I’ve seen enough people, though, who have balance issues, strength, and all that. Thus I know there are far more benefits than alleviating my fears. 

So, I try to get out more. So many benefits. I need to embrace that.

A Few Photos From My Evening Walk

Last night I was able to head down to one of my favorite spots, period, the Edmonds waterfront. Spectacular sunset, with a lot of adoring, camera toting fans.  Noticed a bit of construction going on along Sunset Ave. Several more of the older homes there were torn down, including the foundation. Significant rebuilds.

On an odd side note, saw a coyote on Olympic View Drive in the middle of Perrinville Woods. I found that quite exciting.

My wife and I spent the afternoon in one of our favorite places, the waterfront in Edmonds. Ran into many friends, had a quick lunch, popped into the ranger station at Olympic Beach. Fyi, there’s a touch there that’s stocked with local wildlife. A great place to getvsine insights into our marine life. One of their volunteers, Ryan, hosts a podcast: Aquacast; go check him out!

Also made it up to the library. Lots of good flowers along the way. Lots blooming right now.

I adore this region so much. Makes my heart soar.

Through The Day Then Into The Night

A pretty standard day any more. Worked all day, mostly drafting a site plan, but some other work, too. The most amusing was driving to one of our new listings. The property has been framed, but is still under construction. As it’s listed, we wanted to hang a keybox on the property, so other agents can show. We’ll, got the keybox, inserted keys, drove it out to Snohomish from Marysville, and then noticed there are no doors on the property yet. Nothing to hang the keybox to. Sigh… Anyway, I also followed up with a few folks, sent a gob of emails. After dropping off some drawings, etc, at a client’s house, I zipped home.

Now, in a couple of minutes, I’m heading off to a board meeting for the Snohomish County Youth Chorus. As my son sings in it, and the director is a long-time friend of mine, I’m quite committed to the org. It’s a fun group, the parents enjoy each other’s company, and the kids have fun. Oh, they sing and stuff!

Anyway, off on to the next appointment!

Edmonds Area Podcast: AquaCast

I met the “Bald Fish Guy“, aka Ryan at the Visitor Station at Edmonds’ Olympic Beach during a recent visit. He’s a docent there, and knows his Puget Sound marine life. So I found it fantastic to talk with him.

He hosts a podcast, Aquacast, focusing on Puget Sound marine life, systems and the eco-system we live in. Sadly, he has only sporadically posted, and it’s been quite some time since his last update, but I find the casts interesting and well researched. And, even the ones a few years old, still relevant and, thus, worthwhile listening. I’m working my way through his library and will keep on digging through them.

Of particular note is his post about Sea Star Wasting Syndrome. Though most of my life has been spent along these shores, I’d not heard of this. His intro to this is a good start into understanding this disease impacting many different species of our region’s sea stars. {UC Santa Clara’s website on this is a great resource for learning more}.

I hope Ryan is able to get more podcasts up. In the meantime, I’ll make my way through what’s there. And, dear friends, I recommend you do the same.
