Memories of my Grandfather

Riding the ferry

From shore to shore for hours

Talking to strangers

I’ve been thinking a lot of my grandfather lately. He spent years driving trucks throughout the region. His gift for connecting with people his deep. He had friends all over Edmonds. I emulate him… in my own way.

A Night Walk

Upon this calm night
Light filtered by the stillness
Alone with the moon

Though I love the shore

My other love is mountains

Fog Over The Snohomish: A Haiku

Fog on the river

As I cross the Snohomish

How much of it smoke?

With all the smoke in Seattle’s air, I wonder the breakdown with the fog lingering over the Snohomish river this morning.

With this, there was mist on my car window. That, mixed with river fog are signs of impending autumn. As teachers move into their rooms, seasons are changing.

A Saturday Haiku For Seattle

With the gloom clearing

Patches of blue sky eastward

Yet more rain’s coming

Weather, especially in June, can be quite fickle. Such is today. I guess.

The train’s horn carries

The train’s horn carries

Upon the suburban calm

Miles from the shore

I often hear the train’s whistle miles away from the Edmonds shore. A few miles, up the hill, from Puget Sound. It actually delights me. Well, at times the intense quiet unnerves me. At my core, I’m an urbanite.

An afternoon walk

Briefly I went out
Enjoying this moment’s sun
As it fades to dust

Earlier this week, the dreary effects of winter faded for an afternoon. I went down the few blocks to the trailhead and walked. Got some good exercise and vitamin D.
