A Storify for the October Windstorm

I’ve put together a Storify for the storms making their way through Washington and Oregon. You might need to refresh the page to see updates.

Rough weather heading our way tomorrow

Just saw this over at Cliff Mass’ site. Looks like, starting tomorrow, our weather is going to be rough. Dig out the rain gear Seattle peeps!

Warning: Major Storms Threaten the Pacific Northwest

Starting Thursday, we will enter a period of extraordinarily active weather with the potential for heavy rain, flooding, and a highly dangerous windstorm with the potential to be an historic event. The coastal waters and shoreline areas could well experience hurricane-force gusts, with a lesser but serious threat for strong winds over the interior.  Keep in mind that there is still uncertainty in the forecasts, more so for the wind than the rain.

Well, it’s the weekend…what’cha you gonna do?

So, one of my favorite Saturday things is finished for 2016, the Edmonds Summer Market. However, there’s still plenty of stuff to do.

Hardly an all inclusive list, but it’s main focus is to get you out of the house on this predictably drippy weekend.

Did I miss anything? Let me know in comments below.

Community Radio

I’m a community radio junkie.

One of my favorites growing up with KNHC, aka C89 FM. They’ve won several awards, including Best Dance Station. To me, that’s a huge deal since this local, student run (high-school students at that) community station beat out major national players.

Almost daily I listen to KEXP. John in the Morning has long been a staple of my days. And I’ve been listening the station, like, forever. Like back when it was KCMU.

Another that gets a fair amount of my ear-time: KNKX (formly KPLU). My favorite for news and my beloved jazz.

KING FM, Seattle’s classical station (personally, I prefer “symphonic/orchestral” as “classical” refers to a specific time period, and “classical” music {as it’s termed now} encompasses Baroque, Romantic, Modern…you get the idea…anyway, that’s me being a music snob, and, well, I digress) is another favorite. I was delighted when, years ago, they shifted to a community radio format.  And I still am delighted at the change.

A few additional “honorable mentions”:

So, I think I need this t-shirt!

So, that’s it for now. I’m sure I’ll add more later. Is there any I missed? Let me know in the comments below.

Seattle’s Vlogger Fair | November 12 & 13

I’m playing with taking my aspiring vlogger son to these events, but not sure about the price tag. Though not horribly expensive, I need to be thoughtful of my investments in time and money.

So, any of you going? Who’s been the past ones? Are they worth the investment in time and energy? Should my son and I go to one, or the other…or both?

Let me know in the comments.

Today’s Meditation

I agree with Frank Herbert

Fear is the mind killer

The destroyer of dreams

Robbing joy and all goodness

Consuming love and passion

Let the fear pass over

Then flow through

Looking back at its path

I will only see

More Work Samples

I haven’t shared any of my work samples of late and thought I’d rectify this.

Created with Gimp, this is a little ad I whip up on a monthly basis for C&K Real Estate, the company I work for. Nearly as powerful as Photoshop…nearly…I’m very fond of this program.

Travel Follow Up

While we were at Yellowstone we chatted with a cool family from California (mentioned them briefly in my last post). Well, after we left Yellowstone we headed to Jackson Hole. While walking around town I ended up seeing their van again on the side of the road.

They weren’t around, or it would’ve been great to chat. The coincidence is striking! A very unique vehicle.

Malls are a’changin

Just read this Yahoo! piece about the decline of department stores in malls. North Seattle/greater Seattle has plenty of malls. This trend will change the dynamic of the region’s malls, and I think for the good.
