Clearly, Zuri’s is a great part of our community. Though I don’t really relish longer lines, I think everyone should swing by and give them your support (directions at this link).
I’ve driven past Everett’s Vintage Cafe dozens (100s?) of times, but have never made my way down to it. After watching Live In Everett’s YouTube video about it, though, I realize I need to fix that. Of course, after the pandemic lock-downs have passed. Sadly, it’s a bit far away for us to go there for takeout.
Its been quite the snow filled few days here just north of Seattle. The whole region got a good dumping, and yesterday stayed below freezing. It’s supposed to warm up and start raining overnight. Thus, I expect most of the snow will melt away tomorrow and Tuesday. I did grab a few good photos, though.
I’ve been an avid cyclist pretty much all of my life. For nearly a decade I went without owning a car, where my bike was my main mode of transportation, along with buses and feet. Over these past few decades in suburbia, I’ve lost some of my advidness. But this is still my soul. Now, good ol’ YouTube has detected this and started feeding me videos to get my love re-ignited.
Though I’ve been been a fixie/fix-gear rider, I am enthralled with those who ride ’em. And especially those who ride them in cities. Bold! With “fixie mulhouse – my legs are my gear”, I enjoy watching them ride through the city. I also wish I had a group of rider friends back in those days for me.
This one is a blast. Reminds me of the days when any potential girlfriend needed to love cycling as much as me. (I’m fortunate that this description fits my wife)
Now, though most of my cycling is urban, I have a lot of experience mountain biking. I’ve long admired trials riders like Hans Rey and Danny Macaskill, who blows my mind. His talent, balance, and skill are, simply, amazing. I’m proud that I can do a track stand.
Lastly, I have been adding things to my cycling playlist on YouTube. Give it a look!
“So some time this weekend some one decided to take my yard mushroom…ðŸ˜ðŸ˜¢ I just want it back. It was a memorial to my brother who I lost in 2019. If you have any info that would be great. It is pretty big at leat 3feet around and tall……… pretty noticeable thank you for any information. We live in Lynnwood wa right behind meadowdale high.”
I walk by this house almost daily and found this delightful. Knowing it’s a memorial makes it more awesome, and it’s theft more painful.
If you know anything, reach out and let someone know. We need to get this thing back to its rightful owners.
I’ve been enjoying the video work of Tyler Tang. I met him in late 2019 (though I’m not sure he would remember me), and thought highly of him at that point. Nice to see his work is growing.
He posted this exploration of the U-District last week, and I think it’s pretty cool.
Racists annoy me greatly. They’ve worked hard to intimidate these good folks. I might not have a lot of power, but what little I have I’ll bend to helping Black Coffee Northwest grow and prosper.
I zipped down there just now and got some great coffee and pastries (try the peanut butter malt bar…heavenly!) I encourage everyone to do the same. They’re open today until 4 pm today. If you haven’t been there yet, they’re just south of Shorewood Highschool on the west side of Aurora. Click here for a map link/directions.
When I was checking the weather earlier I noticed the wind advisory.
Wind Advisory Notice
When you clicked on the link, it stated that we were watching for high-winds through Admiralty Inlet. I didn’t think much of it, but as the day progressed wondered how many people knew where that is. Well, let’s have a look shall we?
Admiralty Inlet
Named by George Vancouver after his bosses, the Board of Admiralty, Admiralty Inlet stretches from Edmonds to the south up to Picnic Point, then west across the Sound to Port Gamble, continuing west along the Kitsap and Olympic Peninsulas to Pt. Wilson (Port Townsend), and bounded on the north by Whidbey Island. And important nautical thoroughfare for the region as all ships heading from the ocean to Seattle or Tacoma need to pass through.
As a boy, one of my best friends and I thought kayaking this would be good. His father was in the Coast Guard and put the kibosh on that hard. We were NOT going to be allowed to be one of his rescues! I still think it would be fun to have a motor yacht and sail up to Port Townsend. However, my propensity towards seasickness will probably always make that a bad idea, especially since I’ve seen many storms whip through, buffeting the shores of Edmonds. For a protected body of water, the waves can get rather fierce.
A rather important piece of northwest geography in my own little neighborhood.
I just bought a bag of candy on the off chance that some kids come to my door tomorrow. In the years we’ve living in our rather-far-off-the-street house, there have only been a small handful of kids coming down to Trick-or-Treat. But with the weirdness of this year, I thought I’d be prepared.
Sadly, as far of good ol’ trick or treat fun, so many of the events have been canceled due to the pandemic. However, a few remain.
While on my way back from Mountlake Terrace’s Double D Meats, I really wanted some coffee…and a pumpkin scone (I love them so). For the coffee part, I opted for a good ol’ pumpkin spice latte. They goofed on a prior order and offered me a free iced white chocolate mocha. So I think “absolutely”! On the drive home, I sipped my PSL merrily. Once I got home, though, I thought I’d take a sip of the mocha. Um…poor choice. The mocha paired, well, horribly with the PSL. I needed to give my mouth a good rinsing.
So, dear friends, when offered a free beverage, take a moment and think about how it will blend in with the rest of your meal.
