Hey #Seattle Geeks: ACE Comic Con Returns To Seattle Next Weekend

Next weekend we get another addition to the great collection of cons that Seattle has to offer: ACE ComicCon. Looks like a great line up, especially for Marvel and Infinity War fans.

Check out their teaser below.

Anyway, it stars a week from tomorrow, June 28th, and runs all weekend. Looks like there are still tickets available. I can’t make it, I’m afraid. Are you going to go? Let me know.

Watch “MHS Film Festival 2018-2019” on YouTube

The Meadowdale High School Film Festival is next week. I’m excited for the kids and expect it’ll be great. And I’m not biased at all. *ahem*

*note: I’m a Meadowdale alum, and several of the participants are kids I’ve been honored to watch grow up. I’m totally biased.

A Geeky Update: Star Wars SC 38 Reimagined

I was always disappointed by the scene, in Star Wars episode IV, when Obi-wan Kenobi faces Darth Vader. Because of the technological constraints on the 1970s, they couldn’t do much and the scene always seemed rather, well, lame. Too old men wearily tapping at each other with light tubes. Ok, that might be a little harsh, but the scene left a lot to be desired.

Come to the 2000s and the good folks at Fix It In Post. With their re-envisioning this classic confrontation, they add layers of action that make me believe these are two master warriors, and that they each are dangerous. I delighted from the first teaser to the final production. So, go my geeky friends, go and watch. I hope you find it as wonderful as I did.

Ask The Edmonds Cop: May 20th Edition

The Edmonds Police are looking for a chap who, um, disrupted things at Safeway a few days ago. Check out the video and, if you know this chap, you might pass that along to the local constabulary.

And consider subscribing to Theresa Whipple’s My Neighborhood News Network. She does great work and is an asset to our lovely community.

A PNW Gem: Morten Lauridsen

Morten Lauridsen is one of the great musical products of the Pacific Northwest. Born in Colfax (roughly 1/2 way between Spokane and Pullman), he then grew up in Portland, went to Whitman in Walla Walla, then landed at USC. I’m sad to say I only discovered his music quite recently, as he has been helping the good folks at King FM raise money for their abrupt and mandatory relocation. I’ve been exploring his work throughout the week. Spotify has a nice collection of his work.

I also discovered this interview where he discusses his Magnum Mysterium. Listening to him talk reminds me of the joy I felt when I studied music. I have many moments where I regret stopping those studies. I expect I should write about that at some point.

What do you think of his music? Is there anyone you like? That you would recommend? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

If you could give this post a “like” and share it on your favorite social platform, it would help the blog out greatly. And, please, consider subscribing!

A Thursday Morning Opps

Currently I’m at the Snohomish County campus to do some research on one of my projects. Forgot that the Planning and Development Services department is closed until 10 on Thursdays (had it in my head that was Wednesdays). Opps! That worked out for the best, though. Got to talk with one of the staffers about a different project, which will move that forward quicker. And then ran into a friend at the cafe here. I haven’t talked with her in several months, so it was nice to catch up on stuff (mostly kids…you know how parents are).

The cafe here is actually pretty nice. Especially for a office cafeteria kind of place. I enjoy the food here, and they serve Cafe D’Arte coffee. Not a favorite, but I do enjoy it.

It’s a delightful spring morning. Glad I brought my fleece, but the sun is lovely. Listening to the weird combination of construction noise, people chatting, and the seagulls and crows getting worked up over the eagle perched atop the Angel of the Winda arena (formerly Comcast/Xfinity). The eagle quickly got annoyed with the crows dive-bombing it and took off.

So much construction going on. The courthouse upgrade a few feet behind me, and the Hopelink work a few blocks to the south on Broadway make for a vibrant area. And fir a bit of traffic noise. Everett is changing right around me. I don’t think I’d recognize the place if I’d been gone 10 years. An amazing time to be here, enjoying a random respite from the busyness of modern life.

I saw the weirdest thing on my walk this evening

Just out the south entrance to Meadowdale high school sits this dilapidated truck. I walk by this spot regularly and it wasn’t there last time. It couldn’t have more than two weeks since my last visit.

Oh, its important to note that there’s a locked gate between this area and the street. I have no idea how the truck got there or why. Was it abandoned? Some kind of joke? Eh, who knows?

Watch “Inside The Awesome New VW Camper “California”” on YouTube

One of my dreams: driving around the country exploring backroads, diving deep into the unique culture of small town America.

I generally picture this while driving a VW bus. And though I delight in the old Kombis, this van featured here brings so much modern coolness, I’d be hard pressed to pass up one. If I had the budget.

Anyway, tis a dream I’ll entertain more.
