A Behind The Scenes Look At The Clone Wars: The Phantom Apprentice

I have really enjoyed the final season of Star Wars: Clone Wars. The animation is amazing, and the stories, well, for me at least, perfect. I’ve reconnected with the characters enough that it’s going to hurt when Order 66 goes down.

Last week’s episode, The Phantom Apprentice, was powerful. Part of that was bringing back Ray Park, who performed Maul in the Phantom Menance, and an exceptional martial artist. The team used motion capture to create this dynamic, engaging piece of film (can I call it film if it’s only digital?).

Below is a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the episode. Well worth watching if you’re fascinated by the production of movies and tv.

A Geeky Update: Star Wars SC 38 Reimagined

I was always disappointed by the scene, in Star Wars episode IV, when Obi-wan Kenobi faces Darth Vader. Because of the technological constraints on the 1970s, they couldn’t do much and the scene always seemed rather, well, lame. Too old men wearily tapping at each other with light tubes. Ok, that might be a little harsh, but the scene left a lot to be desired.

Come to the 2000s and the good folks at Fix It In Post. With their re-envisioning this classic confrontation, they add layers of action that make me believe these are two master warriors, and that they each are dangerous. I delighted from the first teaser to the final production. So, go my geeky friends, go and watch. I hope you find it as wonderful as I did.

Darth Vader vs Obiwan: Reimagined

For years I thought redoing this pivotal lightsaber dual would be fantastic. Of all the technolgoical updates that could’ve been done with the Original Trilogy, this is one I felt would give more weight to the story.

Someone else agrees, and is working on it as we “speak”. I do so hope this isn’t vaporware.

Star Wars Rebels Season 3 Coming Sept. 24

I’m pretty excited about the upcoming Season 3 of Star Wars Rebels. Well crafted and nicely executed, I really enjoy the show. So, I hopped online to learn when I’ll be able to buy the series on iTunes. Most of my Google search, though, reminded me of Disney’s PR snafu last year.

As a long-time cord-cutter, I bought each season on iTunes. Last season’s dividing the season into two payment opportunities annoyed me greatly. Not as much as some people (like these folks), and not enough that I said “screw it”. I paid the dough. But I wonder how often this money grabbing technique will be tolerated. I don’t know how I feel, personally.

Anyway, I’m not sure when season three will be on iTunes, but will be watching closely.

These characters have amazing potential, and I’m really excited to see what the creators have crafted. It’ll be a great couple of months.

Charity Fundraising Opportunity : Star Wars Characters!

Just heard about this today. What a fun way to raise funds for Toys for Tots. I believe I ran into these guys at the Edmonds Fourth of July parade, and found them loaded with fun.
