Edmonds Kind of Play: Quiet Heart Wilderness School’s beloved Hawkeye ready to say farewell – My Edmonds News

Quiet Heart Wilderness School’s beloved Hawkeye ready to say farewell

Funny that I don’t recall ever meeting “Hawkeye” in my journeys about Edmonds. I feel a bit lesser as I read about him in this article.

This local school and daycare program is a unique enterprise, and one I’m glad will continue under competent hands. Hands that share its creator’s vision.

Snohomish County Youth Choir Summer Serenade 2018

I’ve been involved with this choir for about two years now. My son sings with them and I’ve known the director for years. I think very highly of them and couldn’t recommend them more.

Do you love to sing? Love being on stage? Need to prep for choir auditions at school? Want to learn how to sing a solo? Would you like to make new friends, try out instruments, learn to sing different styles of music, and have fun?

Congrats to the Lynnwood High Girls Basketball Team

Earlier this week, Lynnwood’s Mayor and City Council were able to give the most formal of congratulations to our local State Champs!  As a Meadowdale alum and long-time Lynnwood resident, just want to say how proud I am of our local kids doing great things.

It doesn’t seem that long ago that our local Pacific Little League boys were in the Little League World Series. This region has some good sports genes I guess.

Neighborhood Youth Alliance : Success This Weekend

My wife has been heavily involved with Lynnwood’s Neighborhood Youth Alliance for years. This Saturday was supposed to be the culmination of a backpack & school-supplies drive. It wasn’t, exactly, though. Due to a few communication snafus, there was a fair amount of last-minute scrambling. However, there were adequate supplies to hand out to our kids in need so they would be prepared for school this Wednesday. Though there were a few gaps in supplies, they will be filled next week. And, also also, this delay allowed us to think and we were able to get donations of graphing calculators for some of our STEM students. Our community came together fast, and went beyond the obvious need. Makes me happy and proud to call this place home.

Below is a shot of the SECOND wave of donations, with the ask put forth barely a day before.

We learned a great deal, and next year will be even more effective. I love this place.

A weekend of rocket fun

Last weekend, my son and I decided to build a model rocket, an Estes Taser. To fly the thing, we went to Edmonds Elementary’s play-field. I flew many, many rockets over the course of my youth. One challenge with rockets in this region, though: trees. Well, tress and wind. I estimate I lost a few hundred dollars worth of rockets over the years, making this a particularly spendy hobby. But, the boy wanted to and I really do have fond memories, so, what the heck!

Anyway, after the first launch cooked the parachute a little bit, preventing it from deploying properly, we did manage to get two more launches in. The last launch, though, ended with the thing crashing, cone first, into the earth, bending the tube significantly. And that pretty much ended the excursion.

So, the boy really wanted me to create a video, so here we go. I thought, afterwards, it would’ve been nice to add some music. Maybe at sometime in the future.

Below is the creation. Enjoy!
