Oh Yum! Check out the Northwest Chocolate Festival!

Apparently this is the Top Chocolate festival in North America (is there a more impressive one in Europe? Or South America? But I digress…). More importantly (to me at least) it’s the largest gathering of chocolatiers in the world. As someone who adores chocolate, I find this compelling and more than a little bit interesting.

  • Live chef demos
  • 160 exhibitors from across the globe
  • a 21+ lounge

The event will be November 9 & 10 on Pier 91 in Seattle. Tickets for the full weekend are currently $50, with single day options at $25. There’s also a VIP pass that looks like a blast at $95. These prices are for right now, and will go up closer to the event.

Check out their website for full details and to reserve your tickets.

Update: corrected the dates to November 9 & 10

The Edmonds Top Pot Opens! Well, Sorta

Ah, the Edmonds Top Pot donuts finally opened! It’ll be a lovely addition to the changing dynamic along the ferry lane.

I expect the good folks at Waterfront coffee, nor the proprietors of the little coffee shop and hot dog stand adjacent to the ferry holding lane will be fine.

Anyway, the shop isn’t quite finished. The upstairs seating area isn’t accessible, nor are all the pieces of the kitchen done (donuts were being unloaded from a van, so I don’t think the kitchen is operational yet). The soft serve ice cream machine isn’t finished yet, and the stairway doesn’t have handrails. But what’s there is nice. Well lit, with the books in the loft a northwest genteel touch. I’m looking forward to having the place done.

The sign on the door said it was open today and tomorrow until 2:00. Not sure about the week. But we have a little action after the years of waiting!

Welcome to the neighborhood Top Pot!

A weekend of rocket fun

Last weekend, my son and I decided to build a model rocket, an Estes Taser. To fly the thing, we went to Edmonds Elementary’s play-field. I flew many, many rockets over the course of my youth. One challenge with rockets in this region, though: trees. Well, tress and wind. I estimate I lost a few hundred dollars worth of rockets over the years, making this a particularly spendy hobby. But, the boy wanted to and I really do have fond memories, so, what the heck!

Anyway, after the first launch cooked the parachute a little bit, preventing it from deploying properly, we did manage to get two more launches in. The last launch, though, ended with the thing crashing, cone first, into the earth, bending the tube significantly. And that pretty much ended the excursion.

So, the boy really wanted me to create a video, so here we go. I thought, afterwards, it would’ve been nice to add some music. Maybe at sometime in the future.

Below is the creation. Enjoy!

Catching You Folks Up : Closing Out May 2013

My past few weekends have been quite busy…full of the good living that makes me love this region. Memorial Day weekend I was able to spend with good friends on the beach a few miles north of my house, and then spent a day at Folklife, one of my favorite Seattle festivals. Though the weather was a bit drippy, I enjoyed the music and other artists while we wandered the Seattle Center Campus. Then we wandered over to the Pacific Science Center, always a favorite for us. Lunch in the Armory, my son enjoying Kabab and my wife and I grubbing on burgers from Skillet’s counter.

This past weekend we spent part of Saturday meandering the Edmonds Spring/Garden Market, ending the day with froyo at Revelations. Yesterday, spent most of my morning and early afternoon at Trinity Lutheran Church for our annual meeting, followed by a run down in Edmonds.

For me, at least, all recipes for perfect weekends.

You’ll find a few photos below for your enjoyment!

Cheers, all.
